We just finished this year’s grape harvest at the Cascina Gramolere by collecting the last bunches of Nebbiolo grapes that will produce the Barolo 2015 vintage.
The climate has been quite favorable this year, although this summer’s heat had given me some concern.
The rain too wasn’t of concern during the harvest.
The wines produced this year, I am sure, will be of the highest quality. Dolcetto for example, which we’ve just removed from the containers, has the same characteristics as in the past (like in the good old days, as we say!).
One thing that impressed me a lot, as we completed the harvest, was the leaves that were still quite green on the vines and the classic autumn colors that had yet to arrive. Colors that can only marginally be seen, thus forming a sort of multicolored mosaic in which the green color still dominates the red, yellow and orange colors.
In conclusion, such beautiful grapes made harvesting this year an incredible treat. I hope the same goes for the numerous tourists who just happened to be visiting our hills during this period!
