Decanted two hours. Very pale, dirty garnet color that you can certainly see your fingers through. Powdery aromas of chalk and gravel, along with fresh cranberry and a fresh marshmallow on a sugar cookie. You can almost smell the acidity as well, as something’s a bit sharp, but it’s certainly not the alcohol. Fairly light bodied and frothy with splashing around in the mouth, and very shy. Finish actually isn’t nearly as tannic as I expected for an ’04, as most of the tannins are quite mellow and almost sweet. Finish isn’t very complex, showing primarily tart red fruit. Interesting nose, but not really much of a Barolo… (260 views)

A really nice bottle drinking surprisingly well right out of the gate. Tons of fruit, very ripe with dense dark berry flavors, some very subtle herbal/floral notes on the nose, slightly plummy finish, with a background of minerals/earth, and what seems like a bit of new oak. Decent structure, balanced acidity, and smooth tannins. The first ’01 Barolo I’ve tried, and a great value at less than $30. (1268 views)
